What is Pupil Premium?
The pupil premium gives schools extra funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils from reception to Year 11.
Pupils eligible for the pupil premium include those who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years and any children who are looked after (LAC).
Schools will also receive funding for each pupil who has left local-authority care because of adoption, a special guardianship order, a residence order or a child arrangements order.
Children who have been in local-authority care for 1 day or more also attract pupil premium funding. Funding for these children does not go to school; it goes to the virtual school head (VSH) in the local authority that looks after the child. VSHs are responsible for managing pupil premium funding for looked-after children.
What is the Service Pupil Premium?
The service premium gives schools extra funding to support children and young people with parents in the armed forces. Pupils attract the premium if they meet the following criteria:
- one of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces.
- one of their parents served in the regular armed forces in the last 6 years.
- one of their parents died while serving in the armed forces and the pupils in receipt of a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) and the War Pensions Scheme (WPS).
What is the Early Years Pupil Premium?
Early Years Pupil Premium provides extra funding to support three and four year old children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits or who have been in care or adopted from care. This means an extra £300 a year for each child taking up their Nursery entitlement.
How Pupil Premium can support children
Pupil Premium enables school to provide support to pupils such as extra tuition, additional teaching staff, after school activities, costs towards local and residential trips and items of school clothing.
Huntcliff Objectives in spending Pupil Premium Funding
- Provide additional educational support to raise the achievement of our pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium.
- Narrow the gap between the educational achievement of these pupils and their peers.
- Address underlying inequalities, as far as possible, between these pupils and others.
- Ensure that the Pupil Premium funds reach the pupils who need them most.
- Make a significant impact on the education and lives of these pupils.
- Work in partnership with the parents of pupils to collectively ensure their success.
