At Huntcliff School we foster a sense of caring for each and every young person as an individual, academically and pastorally. We strive to have high expectations for all our pupils, and to maximise the potential for all children by supporting children’s holistic development and helping to remove barriers to achievement.
We believe that we should treat all young people as individuals and provide personalised learning for them all. We work in strong partnership with parents/carers and pupils and outside agencies if needed to address any areas of concern including academic, medical or pastoral needs. We will provide effective learning opportunities for all children based on their individual needs.
We strive to ensure that we identify any young person with a Special Educational Need and / or Disability early so that intervention can be swift, immediate and effective.
We have key people at the school who all work alongside teaching staff to effectively identify and implement the SEND code of practice recommendations:
- Mr Nicholson – Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo for Huntcliff School)
- Mrs Collis – Inclusion Manager for Huntcliff School
We believe that high quality special educational needs practice is best practice for all young people and that SEND is a whole school responsibility.
Our SEND policy involves all stakeholders including all teachers, support staff, pupils and families/carers. We believe that pupils are entitled to a broad, balanced curriculum with differentiated teaching and learning methods. Our aim is to produce autonomous pupils who are willing to take responsibility for their own learning. We endeavour to enable full access for pupils with SEND to all manageable aspects of the school curriculum and wider school life.
We have created an ethos and educational environment that is child centred and has the views and needs of the child/young person at its heart along with their families/carers. We encourage a strong focus on high aspirations and on improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND, which will enable them to succeed in their education and make a successful transition into adulthood. We actively encourage and engage the participation of children/young people and parents/carers in the decision making, planning and review of outcomes with regard to their provision. We aim to be proactive in supporting a long-term goal of independence and preparation for adulthood for pupils with SEND.
All pupils have the same entitlement to the whole school curriculum and we are committed to making this as accessible as possible, irrespective of any special educational need and / or disability. Our school values reflect our commitment to the high expectations of everyone. Young people are experience high quality learning curriculums and opportunities so that each young person achieves their maximum potential. We are committed to working hard to ensure that all children are treated as individuals and unique and that each and every one can and be successful during their time in Huntcliff School.
Complaints should be made in the first instance to the Headteacher for each school. Our Complaints Procedure includes arrangements for handling complaints from parents/carers of children with special educational needs about the support we provide.
